Notes from Cognos Forum 2009 - Worldwide Conference posted by Brendan McGuire - 6/8/09 10:57:44 AMI attended the Cognos Forum in
Orlando
earlier this month and found it to be much different from past Worldwide User
Groups. This year the number of
attendees was 30 percent below the average number which made for a more focused
event.
Many of the sessions I attended
were related to product strategy and business user functionality. I left the technical sessions for our
consultants to attend. I am
pleased that Cognos will evolve and enhance its products as compared to
re-architecting to fit the acquiring company. Other items discussed included the role of TM1, Analytic
Application Framework for all packaged applications including two new released
this calendar year, Customer and Supply Chain to compliment the existing
applications, Planning and Workforce.
During hallway discussions I found most attendees interested in
information related to migration and upgrades to C8.4. Clearly many PowerPlay users waited for
C8.4 so they can finally realize the advantages of C8 without losing the power
and comfort of PowerPlay. The
great majority of the companies with whom I spoke are taking a “Compress and
Optimize” approach to migrating as compared to “Lift and Shift”. This process takes a bit more time;
however the advantages far outweigh the time.
Finally, the Cognos Forum will
no longer function on its own.
Next years Forum will be part of the IBM On-Demand conference to be held
in October 2010 at the Mandalay
Bay in Las Vegas.
