The Waypoint Service Stewards recently hosted a home cooked dinner at a local Philadelphia emergency housing unit called “SREHUP (Student-Run Emergency Housing Unit of Philadelphia). SREHUP works one-on-one with individuals experiencing homelessness to help find them permanent housing and stable employment and by advocating legislatively for issues connected to prevention of homelessness- education reform, job creation and fair housing initiatives.
Ellari Hillard, a Waypoint Consultant, Service Steward and the Operating Board Director of SREHUP said,”SREHUP thrives as an initiative because of the fervent support of the local community – having a group of enthusiastic professionals socialize, play chess, and break bread with the residents of SREHUP as equals is what makes the residents feel loved and at home when they walk through our doors.”
